Lightning in a Bottle 2016: Green is the New Black

Lightning in a Bottle 2016: Green is the New Black

LIB-Action-Day

As the nationally-recognized recipient of A Greener Festival’s Outstanding Award five years in a row for significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, excellent travel, transport and waste management programs, local environment protection, and minimizing water use, Do LaB’s Lightning in a Bottle camping, arts, music and yoga festival is proud to unveil the action plan for the biggest, best and greenest Lightning in a Bottle to date!

Topping the bill of eco-friendly initiatives in 2016, Do LaB has partnered up with Lightning in a Bottle headliner, the World’s Funkiest Diplomat The Polish Ambassador, to further distinguish the festival from its contemporaries as the most environmentally conscious festival in America. The Polish Ambassador’s Actiondays.us and its litany of earth activists, will continue to uphold their tradition of expanding a resilient, regenerative, progressive community-oriented culture on the grounds of LIB. Laying the groundwork for deep-rooted harmonious relations within the community and throughout the sprawling natural landscape of San Antonio Recreation Area, LIB 2016 will officially begin with Village Action Day taking place at 12PM PST onWednesday May 25 as part of the festival’s Early Arrival offerings. Hosted at LIB’s sacred epicenter The Village, and following the design produced by Erik Ohlsen of Permaculture Artisans, attendees of LIB’s Village Action Day will build demonstration gardens with the goal of envisioning “real earth works” for a regenerative restoration project. Other activities include reforestation and native species plantings, including the ceremonial planting of four oak trees as part of long term planning for the festival’s home venue.  Do LaB, The Polish Ambassador, Action.us and Jumpsuit Records invite all LIB attendee interested in getting involved with the festival at the leading edge of responsible convergence to participate. If you are interested in attending Village Action Day, be sure to purchase an Early Arrival Pass here on top of your general festival pass and RSVP to The Village’s Permaculture Action Day on Facebook.

In addition to Village Action Day, Do LaB is proud to maintain a “Leave it better, leave it beautiful” policy as part of their regular Green Initiatives at all of their festival productions, placing a strong emphasis on composting and recycling infrastructure. Recycling, compost and landfill receptacles will be found on the festival grounds, oftentimes near the stages and vendors. As always, LIB 2016 will be a “pack-it-in, pack-it-out event,” meaning that Do LaB asks that all guests take everything they brought into the festival out with them after the festival ends — campground trash included. A friendly reminder that plastic water bottles are not sold at LIB, so don’t forget to bring your own!

Other initiatives included the procurement of healthy food vendors throughout the festival with the addition of a Farm to Festival dining experience (The Last Supper Club), free water stations and educational classes including The Nature of Food (the Learning Kitchen), Creating Sustainability and Earth Friendly Routines (the Learning Kitchen), Permaculture Visions for LIB and Beyond (The Village), and Science for Sustainable Water Systems Design (The Village) to reduce the carbon footprint of the event and the attendees in 2016.

Lightning in a Bottle encompasses an art and music festival while fostering sustainability towards each other and the earth. After education comes implementation, and like life, there are many different ways to arrive at a solution, or in some cases many solutions. At LIB, Do LaB provides the platform to explore solutions to some of the biggest problems facing mankind, while taking the next steps to ensure future sustainability for the community and the planet.

Now celebrating its eleventh year in production, Lightning in a Bottle Art and Music Festival, returns to San Antonio Recreation Area in Bradley, CA, Memorial Day Weekend (May 25-30, 2016) with music headliners including Chet Faker, Jamie XX, Cashmere Cat, Tokimonsta, Grimes, Four Tet and over 300 additional musicians and artists.
