Uncovering the jewels of Rajasthan, India

Uncovering the jewels of Rajasthan, India

Rajasthan is the jewel in India’s crown. From fairy-tale palaces and epic forts to colorful festivals and wildlife encounters, this is India at its vibrant best. Located in the arid west of India and home to major historical sites and ancient wonders. What to Do The Golden Triangle The famous Golden Triangle is a traveler’s journey through Indian icons in Rajasthan’s capital, Jaipur. Kick off at the daunting mega metropolis of Delhi, with its majestic Mughal heritage, head to Agra where the Taj Mahal, defines the city.  The triangle is completed at Jaipur – a city painted pink with some of the most colorful bazaars in India. Moreover, Jaipur is the gateway to Rajasthan, and once you’ve slept in a palace, entered a medieval fort or swayed on a camel, you’ll want to experience more. Fortified Opulence In Rajasthan, it’s the forts and palaces that grab your attention. Massive forts emerge from mountain tops, their battle-scarred ramparts still defying long-dead enemies. Spiked doors that once held war elephants at bay open onto the twisting approaches to the palaces within. Austere and practical gives way to fantasy and opulence once safely inside. Carved marble and stone, fountains and colored glass decorate the halls of business and rooms of pleasure. Across Rajasthan there are numerous forgotten forts and lovingly restored palaces, including Jaisalmer’s fairy-tale desert outpost, Amber’s honey-hued fort-palace and Jodhpur’s imposing Mehrangarh to name just a few. Land of Kings Rajasthan is literally the Land of the Kings. It is home to the chivalrous Rajputs, and its battle-scarred heritage has bestowed legacies of pride and tradition. The upper echelons of this medieval society built magnificent palaces and forts, many of which are now glorious hotels and museums. In addition, stunning handcrafts and fine arts were developed and nurtured through patronage by the maharajas. Village life remains steeped in tradition but, just like the rest of India, the pace of change is accelerating. Turbaned men still barter for decorated camels – they just relay the successful deal home via a smart phone. Celebration of Color The colors of Rajasthan are impossible to ignore and the effect of emerald green, canary yellow and fire-engine red turbans and saris is simply dazzling. Little wonder so many fashion designers find their inspiration and raw materials in this state. The lucky visitor might even see a flash of orange while tiger-spotting in Ranthambhore National Park. Easier to collect on a camera are the bright hues of Rajasthan’s many festivals: from garishly decorated mounts at the camel and elephant festivals in Pushkar and Jaipur, respectively, to the rainbow explosions of Diwali and Holi, celebrated across the region. Perfect for the adventurous souls, but also the cultural explorers, Rajasthan is a unique place offering an experience that takes travelers into the realms of the nation’s vibrant history through its festivals, temples, and...

Envision Festival Debuts a Scintillating 2019 Music Lineup

Today the perennial permaculture and yoga event, Envision Festival, debuted their complete 2019 music lineup for the ninth edition of the 4-day adventure, held between February 28th and March 3rd, by the picturesque pacific shoreline in the heart of the Costa Rican jungle. The announcement offers a glimpse into an evolution on the conventional music listening experience at the world’s most eco-friendly festival. It also points to a deep-seeded mission to be a positive impact on the local community, through a shared tradition of upholding the finest sounds in Latin America alongside legendary international tastemakers of bass, house and techno. Further distinguished from its contemporaries as a leader among environmentally focused events, Envision is half yoga retreat, half permaculture conference, wrapped in a world class music festival. Set in a living, breathing jungle wonderland with three eco-kindly designed, dance music stages: Sol, Luna and Lapa. As internationally celebrated emblems of Envision’s spirit, each stage features a highly curated lineup and dazzling aesthetic personality complete with flame throwing towers, projection mapped facades and top-shelf audio technology from Audiowaska. “Our favorite aspect of creating a lineup is watching the crowd react to fresh unexpected sounds.” Josh Wendel, Envision Festival Founder said of the announcement. “This year, we went bigger with our top headliners, and took more risks on up and coming artists. We also intentionally plan to throw a few curveballs into the schedule to keep guests on their toes not knowing when their next favorite artists might be playing. The FOMO will be real!”. Envision Festival’s previously announced 2019 headliners are joined by big-bodied sounds like Too Many Zooz, Gone Gone Beyond, Fuerza Dread, among many more. Additions topping the bill include artists at the forefront of progressive awareness like Australia-born sacred bass virtuoso Deya Dova and the Boulder-based climate activist, Xiuhtezcatl. Several featured headliners are preparing once in a lifetime performances and never before experienced opportunities for fans to have a side-by-side experience with their most celebrated musical inspirations. Fan Favorite Random Rab performs for his 9th Envision Festival, following reforesting efforts as part of the yearly tree planting ceremony. Hawaiian reggae rockstar, Trevor Hall, is slated to serve a soulful blend of roots and folk. Tycho is brewing up an infinite first ever performance and Grant ‘GRiZ’ Kwiecinski prepares a mythic ‘Chasing the Golden Hour Set’ on the Luna Stage fresh off his ‘It Gets Better’ video premiere. Both Tycho and GRiZ will offer two sets! Hailing from France, both CloZee and Viken Arman, will offer sultry shamanic bass music and distinct classical, jazz with ancient rhythms, respectively. For those with an affinity for the sounds of Burning Man, the Lapa Stage has more than a few special offerings this year. First, the Co-Founder of New York based daybreaker party series, ‘All Day I Dream’, Lee Burridge, and the purveyor of silky savory, psychedelic house beats, Bedouin, will deliver tastes of the original deep playa sensation, Robot Heart. Then, Andin House producer, Nicola Cruz returns for his second year on the Lapa stage with a flavorful sound from Latin America’s most visible art car – the Mayan Warrior. Latin American Showcase The 2019 Edition of Envision welcomes cultural trendsetters and top emerging sounds from Argentina, Mexico, Colombia in addition to several monoliths of Latin mystery from Costa Rica....

New Teen Brand SkinBuzz Aims To Build Buzz Around Better-For-You Acne Prevention

New Teen Brand SkinBuzz Aims To Build Buzz Around Better-For-You Acne Prevention

Teenagers’ lives can be rough, but skincare for them shouldn’t be – at least that’s the premise of SkinBuzz, a new brand with organic products aimed at the adolescent set. Created by Nicole Sullivan, an aesthetician, authority on acne and mom of 12-year-old daughter Sofia, SkinBuzz is starting with five items priced from $19 to $38: Bee•Witched Organic Toner, Clean•Bee Organic Cleanser, Coal•Bee Charcoal Mask, Bee•Safe Mineral Sunscreen and Bee•You•Tiful Organic Moisturizer. The brand presents a prestige, considered cosmetic option in a segment flooded with cheap solutions and prescriptions. “SkinBuzz is a line for teens and tweens that helps fight acne before it begins. What you really need are products to get in there and help the skin be clean and healthy,” says Sullivan. “Because I specialize in acne, I’m aware of ingredients, even natural ones like coconut oil and algae, that can clog pores and aren’t the best for acne-prone skin. SkinBuzz comes at skincare from an acne point of view, is all-natural and a perfect entry into skincare.” The debut product assortment lays the foundation for a daily regimen that kicks off with the cleanser, toner and moisturizer. Beeswax and propolis, an ingredient produced by bees to seal hives, are incorporated in the formulas and give the brand its name. Additional ingredients include cucumber, shea butter, aloe vera, royal jelly, willow bark extract, and avocado, grapeseed and jojoba seed oils. “So many people are afraid of acne and want to get their kids on acne cleansers and other skincare products that are way too harsh. What I have done with SkinBuzz is created a line focused on preventing acne without the chemicals that are too harsh for kids and also are unnecessary,” says Sullivan, noting, “I wanted to provide something for parents that they could give to kids for a daily ritual. The beauty ritual is important for skin health, and it’s fun. We wanted to have the complete process.” Packaging for products directed at teens and tweens is tricky. They stay away from products that look geared toward younger children, and their parents often steer clear of merchandise that seems too mature. Sullivan was adamant the bottles and jars not feature pink to underscore the SkinBuzz’s unisex positioning. They’re boldly colorful – each product label has a different shade – and not overly cutesy. SkinBuzz isn’t a line adults would be ashamed of having in their bathrooms. “I wanted it to be kind of cool and hip, simple and clean, and not too kiddy, but welcoming to both adults and kids. I love the colors. They’re happy and make sense. The sunscreen is yellow, for example,” says Sullivan. “I didn’t want something kids feel like they can’t use passed 15 or 16. It’s not pastel-y, and it’s something moms can definitely use. I use all the products.” Millennial moms were certainly on Sullivan’s mind throughout self-funded SkinBuzz’s two years in development. She poured roughly $5,000 into bringing the products to fruition and explains the expensive non-GMO, organic ingredients in the formulas made it impossible for her to price them for the mass market. However, she asserts the millennial moms SkinBuzz is after are willing to pay for quality offerings for their children. “I happen to be my target. My daughter is the one who would ask me for it,...
