Las Fotos Project will host “The Power of Pink” on Saturday, April 21st at 2:00 p.m., an international #girlmade photography exhibition that reclaims the color pink and encourages girls to explore how to portray it as an empowering color. Through the collaboration with the Lower Eastside Girls Club in New York this project has travelled to Chiapas (Mexico), Montana, and now to Las Fotos Project in Los Angeles. A color that has been sold to us as passive and soft, is being reclaimed to confronts patriarchy and gendered oppression. In light of the gendered wage gap, the #metoo movement, and international violence against women, pink is utilized by activists, feminists, and those in solidarity to spark conversations and implement change. We ask the girls “What is your relationship to pink? How would you wear it? How would you photograph it?” Through the photography process girls engaged in conceptual photography, environmental portraiture and a reflective dialogue to unpack the meaning of pink. As said by featured artist Jacqueline Arellano, age 17,  “Pink is powerful because so many girls rock this color and prove to everyone that she isn’t just ‘girly.’ She is more than that and shows us how much talent she has and how she can fight back.” Presented in collaboration with Las Fotos Project (Los Angeles, CA), A VOICE (Flathead Reservation, MT) and Club Balam (Chiapas, MX) About: Las Fotos Project is a non-profit community based photography program whose primary goal is to bring about positive change for adolescent girls facing adversity. Through one-on-one mentoring, photography trainings, and assigned field projects, our programs and services foster the creativity, communication, critical thinking, and collaboration skills needed to compete in a 21st century workforce. We serve girl students between the ages of 11-18, from predominantly low-income households, who do not have access to photography equipment or arts-based programs. Find an Eating Plan to Suit You

Find an Eating Plan to Suit You

Looking and feeling great is important – we all know that. Just as we know that we should eat a healthy diet and exercise. Sometimes however, it can be difficult to motivate ourselves to start that healthy eating plan, or put our sneakers on and go for that jog around the park.  If you find it difficult to follow the healthy eating pattern recommended in the 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines For Americans, you’re certainly not alone.  In 2017, CBS News reported that bad eating habits were responsible for nearly half of US deaths from heart disease, stroke and diabetes. There are some great things you can do to kick-start a healthier eating regime.  For example, swapping super-indulgent snacks for something healthy yet still delicious can help.  If you are really serious about eating healthily though, it may be worthwhile taking time to think hard about what plan is right for you. What Kind of Eating Plans Are Out There? There are countless healthy eating regimes for losing weight, maintaining a healthy weight or, generally, looking and feeling better.  For example, the Zone diet, created by Dr. Sears is a hormonal balancing and anti-inflammatory diet which may enhance health and improve energy levels and mental clarity.  There are also advocates of low-carb diets, intermittent fasting and traditional calorie control eating plans.  It’s important for your motivation to choose one that will work for you. What Will Work Best for Me? Start your new health regime by sitting down for ten minutes. Use this time to think about your motivation. Why do you want to start eating healthily? Do you want to lose weight or do you have other, more specific, health concerns such as high cholesterol. Also, consider your current eating habits.  If you’ve tried and failed to lose weight before, try to determine the reason. Do you eat for comfort when things aren’t going so great?  Take some time to look at different eating plans to see which one you could get most out of. Also think about the kind of plan that would be the easiest for you to maintain. Here are a few questions to consider to help you out: Would you prefer portion control? Could you cope with an intermittent fasting regime? Do you want to take a “go it alone” approach, or would the support of a group help? If you’d like support, have a look at groups that meet in your local area. Members can encourage each other when things get tough. Despite our best intentions,  it can be difficult to stay motivated to maintain a healthy diet. If you think seriously about your motivation and eating habits and choose a plan that fits you best, there’s a much better chance that you’ll succeed in reaching any weight loss or health...

Greetings from Bali, Indonesia!

Greetings from Bali, Indonesia!

Indonesia, the Emerald of the Equator with just over 252 million people living on 17,000 islands. Famous for its rich history and hundreds of unique cultures and languages, natural beauty, and biodiversity. Most people travel for adventure to Indonesia’s island province, Bali to explore the rice paddies, volcanic mountains, beaches and Hindu temples among many other amazing things to do. With limited time to explore all of Bali here is what you can do in just a few days. Legian Beach is the stretch of gold and silver sand that continues north of the coast of famous Kuta Beach, and ends just where Seminyak Beach starts. Set between these two of Bali’s most famous beaches, Legian has a mix of the surfing Mecca scenes of Kuta and the partying crowd of Seminyak, and is an ideal recreational place where you can shop, swim and go for leisurely walks along boutique and restaurant-lined streets. Discover the natural beauty and ancient relics of the Balinese midlands. Start the day with a visit to Pura Taman Ayun, the 17th-century temple of Mengwi set amidst ponds full of lotus blossoms. The large temples and multi-tiered shrines are surrounded by a wide, elegant moat. Continue to Bedugul, a village in the central highlands famous for its stunning beauty and three lakes. Stroll through a traditional market with a myriad of fruits, vegetables, orchids, exotic spices and souvenirs. At the nearby Lake Bratan, take a photo of the Ulun Danu temple, built on small islands in a serene lake. Head south to the famous UNESCO-listed rice terraces of Jatiluwih. Trek through the green-stepped rice fields and learn about the Subak irrigation system preserved by Balinese farmers for centuries. Many tourists make a quick, guided daytrip to see Mount Batur standing tall at 5,000-foot, still-active volcano near the northwestern village of Kintamani—but it’s a much better idea to take your time getting there with a car and driver. This will allow you to stop along the way at the artistic villages of Celuk, Mas, and Batubulan where Bali’s famous sliver-workers, wood-carvers, and stone carvers practice their crafts. You’ll know it’s time to park and get out the camera when you see a sign for “Penelokan”—follow it, and you’ll come to a viewing area set at the edge of the crater. From here, you’ll look out across the spectacular Lake Batur, green coffee and clove plantations, and the soaring, still-smoldering cone of the volcano. To avoid the mad “Kintamani Tour” lunchtime rush, arrive after 3 pm and you’ll have the whole place to yourself. UNESCO lists Bali’s rice terrace fields and subak irrigation system as a cultural landscape of Bali. Although not the protected World Heritage site (which is less accessible from the town center), Subak Sok Wayah is a narrow pathway that winds its way from Ubud town center out to the unspoiled rice terrace fields. Along the route are organic cafes, small souvenir stalls, and art galleries. The pathway gets a lot less touristy the further away from the town center it goes, and it is even possible to loop around and enter the town from the opposite side. You can also rent a bike to travel down the pathway, which cuts between the vibrant, green terraced rice fields. The postcard-perfect beaches of Sanur are truly...

Nightsteppaz ‘Your Love’

Nightsteppaz ‘Your Love’

Hailing from New York City, Vibe Me To The Moon’s label-boss Nightsteppaz has made waves with his debut release, ‘The Energy of The Room’, a collaboration with House legend Roland Clark, which took over the #2 position on Traxsource’s Tech House chart, staying there for a full month, thanks to Joeski’s massive remix. For the label’s sophomore release, Nightsteppaz re-emerges, dragging us into much Deeper and Soulful waters with the ‘Your Love’ EP. Nightsteppaz rocks the boat again on this EP, with two sultry Deep House cuts recorded in collaboration with a female vocalist whose catchy melodies will have you thinking you’re listening to Lisa Shaw. Inspired by the soulful and jazzy sounds of San Francisco, Nightsteppaz produced the EP paying homage to the work of Producers Miguel Migs and Fred Everything. The first track of this two-track EP, ‘I Need Your Love’, has a warm vibe, featuring a live trumpet player, who was invited as a guest musician for this track. Freestyle Man (aka Sasse) took a moment away from manning the controls of his Moodmusic label in order to shape a magnificent remix of ‘I Need Your Love’. By adding a highly addictive bass line and slowly incorporating the jazzy undertones of the original version, the Berlin-based bastion of European deep house creates a highly effective rendition, specifically geared for the dancefloor. Capping off this love parade of an EP is the housey ‘Can’t Get Enough’. With its disco-tinged bass groove, this one is sure to crank up the funk meters! ‘Can’t Get Enough’ features a remix by the late Bay Area-based Producer and DJ, Rishi K., who tragically lost his life in December in a devastating car accident, while visiting his father in Jordan. While living in San Francisco for two years, Nightsteppazlearned a lot about producing from his friend and mentor Rishi K. The two spent time together at Rishi’s studio in San Francisco’s famous neighborhood, The Haight. With great pride and heavy hearts, Vibe Me To The Moon proudly presents one of Rishi K.’s final remixes to be released posthumously, which encapsulates Rishi’s fervent love for the melody-driven music he was known for making. As an added bonus, the highly talented Jeremy Juno was commissioned to rework ‘I Need Your Love’, delivering an absolutely orgasmic remix that serves as the perfect nightcap for this EP. ‘Your Love’ EP by Nightsteppaz will be available worldwide via Vibe Me To The Moon Records on Friday May 4, 2018. The EP will be be available for an exclusive two-week promo release on April 20, through...
